Princ Aleksandar Karadjordjevic
drugi krug predsednickih izbora odrzati 8. oktobra, saopstava princ Aleksandar
Karadjordjevic.

Yugoslav Exile Prince Says Milosevic Must Quit
LONDON, Sep 28, 2000 -- (Reuters) Yugoslavia's exiled Crown Prince Alexander
Karadjordjevic accused President Slobodan Milosevic on Wednesday of stealing
the country's presidential election.
The prince said there was no doubt that the main opposition candidate,
Vojislav Kostunica, had won enough votes to qualify for outright victory.
The official announcement of a second round of polling on October 8 was
"outrageous", the son of Yugoslavia's last king, Peter II, said in a statement
issued in London. Milosevic was "scheming to steal the people's vote using
massive fraud and cheating". The opposition says Kostunica won 54 percent
of the votes cast last Sunday, enough for a clear first round victory.
The prince said in his statement: "The people of Serbia and Montenegro
have only one option and that is to unanimously demand that Mr. Slobodan
Milosevic hand over power to Dr Vojislav Kostunica immediately." The prince's
remarks came as Western leaders, including U.S. President Bill Clinton,
accused Milosevic of trying to steal the election from the opposition.
The prince, who was born in London's luxury Claridge's Hotel in 1945, also
called on the armed forces "to act according to military honor and protect
the people from the regime's dreadful behavior". Prince Alexander has been
critical of Milosevic in the past and in recent months met Serbia's fragmented
opposition to urge them to unite to bring democratic change to the country.
He made a rare visit to Yugoslavia in July for the funeral of his uncle
Prince Tomislav, the only member of the royal family to move back since
King Peter left in 1941 after Nazi Germany overran his country.

SERBIAN CROWN PRINCE DEFENDS OPPOSITION VICTORY...
Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, who is the claimant to the Serbian and Yugoslav
thrones, issued a statement in London on 27
September in which he urged Milosevic to respect the will of the voters
and leave office (see "RFE/RL Newsline," 26
September 2000). The prince called the commission's decision to hold
a second round of voting "outrageous... There is
absolutely no question that Dr. Vojislav Kostunica and the DOS are
the outright majority winners and that they have the full
confidence of the people. It is imperative that the people of Serbia
remain firmly united behind Dr Vojislav Kostunica and
DOS. Beware, Mr. Slobodan Milosevic is scheming to steal the people's
vote using massive fraud and cheating. Once
again, Mr. Slobodan Milosevic has shown that he only cares about himself
and perpetual power like all dictators. Mr.
Slobodan Milosevic and his regime must not be allowed to steal what
belongs to the people." PM
...DEMANDS THAT MILOSEVIC GO
Aleksandar also said in his message of 27 September that "the people
of Serbia and Montenegro have only one option and
that is to unanimously demand that Mr. Slobodan Milosevic hand over
power to Dr. Vojislav Kostunica immediately. The
armed forces must act accordingly to military honor and protect the
people from the regime's deceitful behavior. I also
strongly request all institutions to unanimously support the people
and not fall into the hands of the conniving regime. I
appeal to all citizens to put their differences aside and unite against
the regime. There must be no retribution or abuse of
any citizen. It is clear that Mr. Slobodan Milosevic has no alternative,
but to hand immediately the presidency in a civilized
manner to Dr. Vojislav Kostunica... Dr. Vojislav Kostunica and his
government for the people must be allowed to get on
immediately with the hard work and implementation of democratic reforms
to ensure the survival of the nation for the benefit
of all citizens." PM

Advice From a Prince: Milosevic Must Go
To the Editor:
Re "After Yugoslavs Celebrate, Belgrade Orders a Runoff" (front page,
Sept. 28):
Without question, the people of Serbia joined ranks and gave their full
majority support in last Sunday's election to Vojislav Kostunica, the opposition
candidate.
I urge my fellow countrymen to remain firmly united behind Mr. Kostunica.
Once again, Slobodan Milosevic has shown that he cares only about himself
and perpetual power. Mr.
Milosevic and his government must not be allowed to steal what belongs
to the people.
The people of Serbia and Montenegro have only one option, and that
is to demand that Mr. Milosevic hand over power to Mr. Kostunica immediately.
Resignation is the honorable and correct thing for Mr. Milosevic to do.
The suffering, poverty and isolation of the Serbian people must not be
allowed to continue.
Mr. Kostunica and his government must be allowed to get on with the
hard work of democratic reforms to ensure the survival of the nation for
the benefit of all citizens.
