Prof. Dr. Aleksandar P. Simic

Prof. Dr. Aleksandar P. Simic was born in 1965. in Belgrade, where he finished elementary school and high school. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Belgrade in 1990, and since 1992 he has been employed at the Clinic for Digestive Surgery – First Surgical, University Clinical Center of Serbia. He passed the specialist exam in general surgery in 1996, and received his doctorate in 2007. Since 2010. is the head of the department, and since 2015 the deputy director of the Clinic. He was fully employed at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade in 1998, where he has been a full professor since 2020, and since 2021 he has been the head of the Department of Surgery and Anesthesiology. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Serbian Medical Association.

Dr. Simic’s professional and scientific activities are diagnostics, endoscopic and surgical treatment of diseases of the upper digestive system. In our country and region, he was the first to introduce or implement many different diagnostic and minimally invasive surgical procedures for diseases of the upper digestive system. The number and quality of methods performed by Prof. Simic puts him among the leading experts in this field not only in our country, but also in the region.

Prof. Simic trained professionally at universities and leading surgical institutes in Los Angeles, Chicago, Cologne and Hamburg. He is the founder and member of the presidency of the European Foregut Society (EFS), as well as the Association of Endoscopic Surgeons of Serbia, and he is an honorary and regular member of several international and national surgical associations. He gave more than 100 lectures abroad, published five professional international and domestic monographs, many book chapters, and in total has had over 300 professional and scientific publications. He organized and was the president of many international and domestic professional meetings and symposiums. He is the winner of several foreign and domestic awards and recognitions, including the Award of the City of Belgrade in the field of medicine.

Prof. Simić has been a member of the Royal Medical Board Since 2016. He speaks, reads and writes English, French and Hungarian fluently, and has special interests in collecting, as well as classical and medical history.

He is married to Mira Simic, a licensed clinical psychologist, and they have a daughter, Jovana, a medical student.
