THE CHANCELLERY OF
H.R.H. CROWN PRINCE Alexander II
OF YUGOSLAVIA
LETTER OF HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER
II ON THE OCCASION OF RECONSTRUCTION OF BANJSKA MONASTERY
15 August 2004
To His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch
Pavle,
His Grace Bishop Artemije of Raska and Prizren,
all Arch Hierarchs, monastics, deacons
and the people gathered at the Imperial monastery of Banjska
Reconstruction of the monastery of Banjska dedicated to the Holy
Stephen fills our heart with joy and gratitude to God for we have
lived to see this day. We live in the times of great temptations and
our destiny is once again reflected in the holy land of Kosovo and
Metohia, that has always been a great tribunal for our sins, but also
a great inspiration and blessing that has kept us in our faith and our
efforts, as a light that we trust in and we strive for.
When the Holy King Milutin established the Imperial monastery,
Serbia was on its way forward, flying high. Today, we must seek a new
inspiration in the destiny of the monastery of Banjska, and new food
for our creed that there is a future for us as a nation, and that
nothing and nobody will deter us on the way toward it. Today,
regrettably, we reap the consequences of the sowed forced ideology,
infatuation with the transient and the wrong belief that the hard way
of abiding by the God’s and human laws can be replaced by bluff,
irresponsibility and rejecting the permanent and undeniable national
interest. This has come to an end, and the society of lies has
collapsed under the weight of its own deceptions. The victims,
unfortunately, are these people, Kosovo and Metohia, Serbia, these
humiliated remains of Christianity, and to these victims we bow in
this shrine, and for the salvation of these victims we raise our voice
to the Lord.
When we speak, and we speak unceasingly, of democracy, justice and
righteousness, freedom and equality for all , we do not speak of
anything new under the God. All of that is a part of our inborn right,
of the laws that we abide as the God’s people, and of the civilization
awareness that makes us a nation among nations. This is what requires
us not to give up, and this is what obliges us to use all our powers
to protect the people that have been exposed to the massacre that at
the beginning of the 21st century is forgotten even in the most
forsaken corners of the world.
With this belief, with this hope and feelings all of you here and
all of you who are not present here today, are a part of a single soul
and a single prayer to the Creator and to the protection of our
champions in front of His Throne, Holy Stephen, and Holy King Milutin,
to forgive us our sins and give us strength to be worthy of them.
