Statement from the office of:
HRH Crown Prince Alexander
London, 9 November 1999: HRH Crown Prince Alexander will
be arriving in Budapest 12 November 1999 to attend an important conference
with participants from political parties and entities from Yugoslavia and
the Diaspora. His Royal Highness will be staying in Budapest until 14 November.
His Royal Highness has always warmly supported and encouraged all efforts
to bringing democracy and human rights to Yugoslavia. His Royal Highness
wishes to hear positive dialogue during the conference and demands that
all entities to put aside all their differences. Everyone must unite, turn
a new page and not go back, but rather plan and look ahead to the future
and the salvation of Serbia.
His Royal Highness is appealing to the opposition to identify all their
areas of strength within their ranks and form a serious and working partnership
for democracy. Yugoslavia and the whole region will benefit only once Serbia
is at peace with itself and when it is firmly on the course of democracy
and human rights. A new democratic government in Belgrade must capably
take charge of our destiny and work hard to obtain the confidence of the
people and project a fresh positive image internally and externally.
Today on the tenth anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall Serbia
is critically behind the rest of Europe, hurt, confused, isolated and still
faced with the various internal walls and external walls fashioned by the
regime for its own personal survival.
His Royal Highness stresses that the unity of Yugoslavia must be saved
and this can only be done with the demise of the regime in Belgrade. The
regime has no right to keep the people permanently captive, isolated, confused
and ad infinitum subject to propaganda, tactics of deceit, deception and
disinformation.
His Royal Highness stresses that the people of Serbia must witness the
opposition providing a beacon of hope that they can confidently identify
with and support so they know that there is the capability to embark for
once and all on democratic reforms.
His Royal Highness will be accompanied by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess
Katherine and other members of the Royal Family. Their Royal Highnesses
look forward to attending the conference and meeting the participants from
the homeland and Diaspora.
