THE CHANCELLERY OF
H.R.H. CROWN PRINCE Alexander II
OF YUGOSLAVIA

PALM SUNDAY CELEBRATION IN GORNJI MILANOVAC

Belgrade, 20 April 2003 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II extended his
congratulations today to the citizens of Gornji Milanovac on the occasion of
the 150th anniversary of the city, the day the Second Serbian Uprising and
the Palm Sunday – all in one celebrated as the City Day.
The letter of greetings from HRH Crown Prince Alexander II was read at
the central part of the celebration, at the Home of the Army of Serbia and
Montenegro in Gornji Milanovac:
“It is my great pleasure that the occasion for this celebration is
issuing of the decree by my great-great-grandfather Prince Alexander, which
initiated establishing Gornji Milanovac as a center of Rudnik region. Like
all our great XIX century statesmen, my ancestor too had a vision of a
modern Serbian state with citizens who were pillars of its development and
integration into Europe. The foundations of such Serbia were built by
achievements of the Second Serbian Uprising, initiated in 1815 on Palm
Sunday, which we also celebrate today”.
The celebration was attended by His Grace Metropolitan of Dabar and
Bosnia Nikolaj, His Grace Bishop of Šumadija Jovan, His Grace Bishop
administrator of Žica Atanasije, President of Organization Committee of the
Celebration of Gornji Milanovac’s 150th anniversary Dr. Vojislav Koštunica,
diplomatic corps and Mayors of “brother-towns” from Montenegro and
Macedonia.
