Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine attended today, on the Ascension of Our Lord Day – Spasovdan, the City of Belgrade’s Slava, a Liturgy at the Church of the Ascension, and the traditional Spasovdan Procession through the streets of Belgrade.
The Divine Liturgy at the Church of Ascension was officiated by His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia with the His Eminence Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littorals Amfilohije, Their Graces Bishops Dositej of Scandinavia and Great Britain, Atanasije of Bihac and Petrovac, Teodosije of Ras and Prizren, Grigorije of Zahumlje and Herzegovina, Irinej of Australia and New Zealand, David of Krusevac, Andrej of Austria and Switzerland, Joakim of Polog and Kumanovo, Marko of Bregalnica and the clergy of the Belgrade-Karlovac Diocese.
The ceremonial marking of Spasovdan was attended by the City of Belgrade officials, Mayor Mr Sinisa Mali, Mr Nikola Nikodijevic, president of the City Assembly, City Manager Mr Goran Vesic, Dr Radeta Milojevic, director of the Bureau for cooperation with Religious communities, Mr Andrija Mladenovic, as well as by many citizens.
The procession through Belgrade started at the Church of Ascension in Gepratova Street, then went to Kneza Milosa Street, Kralja Milana Street, followed by the first prayer for the wellbeing of the citizens of Belgrade near the Terazije Fountain. The procession then continued to Knez Mihailova Street and King Peter’s Street, to the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel, where the second prayer for peace and progress was said. After that, the procession went to Kneza Sime Markovica Street, and ended in front of the Church of Ascension where a church service was held in memory of all fallen heroes of Belgrade.
