His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander accompanied by Professor Dragoljub Kavran, member of the Crown Council, attended the celebration of the Day of the Military Intelligence Agency, at the former General Staff Headquarters in Belgrade tonight.

The host of the celebration was Brigadier General Slavoljub Dabic, Director of Military Intelligence Agency to whom Crown Prince Alexander congratulated the Day of the Military Intelligence Agency, pointing out that he convinced that the Agency will continue to perform its extremely important and demanding duty responsibly and conscientiously in the future, to the benefit of all citizens of Serbia and our country.

The event was attended by HE Mr. Zoran Djordjevic, new Minister of Defense in the Government of Serbia, General Ljubisa Dikovic, Chief of staff of the Army of Serbia, and other distinguished guests.

The Military Intelligence Agency is celebrating this day because on March 5, 1884 (February 22 by the Julian calendar) the Directive on the General Staff profession was issued, which formed the External Section of the Operational Department of the General Staff, as part of the reorganization and modernization of the Serbian Army. That was the first time in modern Serbian state that the military intelligence activities were institutionally completed, i.e. the organizational unit of the Army that dealt exclusively in military intelligence activity was set up.

The outer segment used to “study the countries and the armies of the European and neighboring countries, first of all, their organization, filling, composition, numerical strength, deployment, education and organization”.
