ENVOY OF HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II AT THE
COMMEMORATION OF 204th ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST SERBIAN GOVERNMENT
Belgrade, 27 August 2009 – On behalf of HRH Crown
Prince Alexander II, Mr. Dragomir Acovic, member of the Privy
Council laid a wreath at the Monument of Duke Sima Markovic, in
Veliki Borak, Municipality of Barajevo at the suburbs of Belgrade.
This year’s commemoration was organized by the
Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Municipality of
Barajevo. There were also present representatives of Ministry of
Defence and Armed Forces, City of Belgrade, and several
non-governmental organizations that keep the tradition going of
Serbian liberation wars.
On 27 August, 1805 Serbian rebels led by
Karadjordje formed the first executive body of new Serbian
authorities during First Serbian uprising in the house of Duke Sima
Markovic in the village of Veliki Borak near Barajevo. Besides being
the first Serbian Government, this body took the role of the first
court of justice in Serbia that was trying to break free from
Ottoman Empire.
