HRH CROWN PRINCESS KATHERINE OPENS
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DIABETES
Belgrade, 15 November 2002 – HRH Crown Princess Katherine opened the
International Conference “DON’T LOSE THE SIGHT OF THE RISK – TOGETHER WITH
THE WORLD” at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Belgrade yesterday.
The Conference is dedicated to the World Day of struggle against Diabetes
Mellitus and the participants were presented with the Project “Support of
Insulin Dependent Persons trough provision of Insulin and their Empowerment”
by MSF Greece.
HRH Crown Princess Katherine opened this important Conference and
addressed the present:
“Projects like this give me hope that our doctors and nurses who worked
in extremely difficult conditions in the last decade, are not left alone in
their everyday struggle to help those who needed it. Communication and
cooperation with the world is essential for development in all areas, and
above all health care, where we mustn’t allow the present condition to
continue.”
Through her humanitarian work Princess Katherine made many contacts in
Europe and overseas, not only in rallying medical equipment and its
delivery, but also in expert cooperation with renowned Universities and
Clinics in the world. Through the Foundation of HRH Crown Princess
Katherine, every three months our doctors will have the opportunity to
exchange their experiences and expand their knowledge at these Universities
and Clinics.
Taking part in the Conference that lasted one day, were Prof. Dr. S.
Antic who presented his project, Prof. Dr. Tolis, the International
Coordinator of the Project “Support of Insulin Dependent Persons” organized
by MSF Greece, and many others. The Conference was attended by the
representative of Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the
representative of Serbian Ministry of Health.
This Conference is not only an important gathering of experts, but also
the opportunity to view the situation in our country regarding Diabetes
Mellitus, and to exchange experiences and to work on effectuating the pilot
project in association with Medicines Sans Frontieres Greece.
