THE ROYAL COUPLE ATTTEND THE 621ST
ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF KOSOVO (1389-2010) AT ST. SAVA
ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL IN NEW YORK
New York, 28 June 2010 – Their Royal
Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess
Katherine attended the Holy Liturgy served by His Grace
Bishop Dr Mitrophan of Eastern America, at the St. Sava
Orthodox Cathedral in New York for the marking St. Vitus Day
and the 621st anniversary of the Battle at Kosovo.
Following the Divine Liturgy a speech was
delivered by HRH Crown Prince Alexander II, who pointed out:
“From 1389 up to the present day 28 June has been the most
important day when we pay homage to all Serbs who have given
their lives for the “holy cross and golden freedom”, as Knez
Lazar and his army chanted in unison while receiving the
Eucharist prior to the battle. Kosovo has been ever since
that day almost seven centuries ago our Holy Land. The
cradle of Serbdom, and its inalienable historical, national,
and cultural heritage”.
As a part of the ceremony Sunday school
children performed a cultural programme after which a lunch
took place at the Parish Hall.
