TRH Crown Prince Alexander, Crown Princess Katherine, and Princes Dr Vesna hosted a reception and dinner last night at the Royal Palace in Belgrade in honour of the members of the Organising Board of the international scientific conference “The Health Impact of Air Pollution: Mechanisms, Consequences, and the Need to Mitigate Its Adverse Effects.”

This conference is organised by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), and it takes place today, 4 November 2026, at SASA in Belgrade. The reception at the Palace brought together distinguished members of the international scientific and medical community and Serbian academicians and professors, whose expertise on the important topic of the conference should contribute to the wellbeing of society, and it was organised by the initiative and with the great support of the Royal Medical Board.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander expressed his happiness at welcoming the distinguished guests to the Royal Palace: “It is a great pleasure for me that the Home of the Royal Family of Serbia is once again a gathering place for distinguished individuals whose knowledge, experience and dedication can bring so much good to Serbia and to the world.

The Karadjordjević Royal Family has always believed in the importance of supporting initiatives that advance knowledge, education, science and the wellbeing of our people. This has been an important part of our historical role, and we wholeheartedly support the efforts of those who work for the progress of humanity. I wish all the participants a successful conference and hope that its discussions and conclusions will contribute to a healthier and better future for all.”

HRH Crown Princess Katherine, who has devoted her life to supporting Serbian healthcare institutions, medical professionals and humanitarian initiatives, also welcomed the guests and emphasised the importance of their work: “I have always had the greatest respect and admiration for our doctors and all healthcare professionals. Their knowledge, dedication, compassion and tireless efforts are invaluable, and we must always recognise and support the extraordinary work they do for the health and wellbeing of our people.

Through my humanitarian activities, I have seen how important cooperation, education and the exchange of knowledge are in improving healthcare and saving lives. My husband and I are very pleased to welcome experts who are working together to address such an important issue as air pollution and its consequences for human health. We must all do our best to protect the health of our people and provide a better environment for future generations.”

The conference will address one of the most significant public health and environmental challenges of our time. Air pollution is recognised by World Health Organisation as a major risk factor for numerous diseases, affecting life expectancy and the health of populations worldwide. Through scientific presentations and discussions, the gathering will bring together experts from medicine, environmental science, public institutions and other relevant fields to examine the mechanisms and health consequences of air pollution, present scientific evidence and consider practical measures to reduce its harmful effects. The conference will offer the possibility for a critical discussion on public policies, institutional roles and responsibilities, and the path that should be taken in order to reduce adverse effects of air pollution on human health.

Their Royal Highnesses wished the organisers and all participants every success in their important work, expressing their hope that the conference would contribute to further scientific cooperation, greater public awareness and meaningful progress in protecting public health and the environment. The Royal Family of Serbia remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote science, healthcare, humanitarian cooperation and the advancement of Serbia.
