Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine attended the commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the autocephalous Serbian Orthodox Church at Žiča Monastery.
Today’s Holy Liturgy at Žiča Monastery was officiated by His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

In 1219 in Nicaea, in the temple of the Wisdom of God, in which the first and seventh Ecumenical councils were held, St. Sava was appointed to be the first head of the Autocephalous Local Church and Žiča then became the seat of the Archbishopric.

“Faith in Christ is what kept our people during difficult moments throughout history. This is an important and holy celebration. I believe and hope our descendants will celebrate the next 800 year of autocephaly of Serbian Orthodox Church also”, said HRH Crown Prince Alexander.
