THE CHANCELLERY OF
H.R.H. CROWN PRINCE Alexander II
OF YUGOSLAVIA
ROYAL COUPLE ATTENDED CONCERT IN KING PETER’S VILLA
Belgrade 29 August 2006 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown
Prince Alexander II and Princess Katherine attended last night a concert of
the St. George Strings (Patron HRH Prince Philip) at the King Peter Villa,
organized by the Belgrade municipality Savski Venac. The concert was
organized to promote the revitalising King Peter Villa into a Museum about
HM King Peter I Liberator.
“I am very glad that City of Belgrade and Municipality of
Savski Venac are planning to renovate the house where my great grandfather
spent his last days and to transform it into museum. HM King Peter I is an
important figure in Serbian history”, said HRH Crown Prince Alexander while
visiting the Villa with the President of the Municipality Mr. Tomislav
Djordjevic.
Mr. Djordjevic emphasised that the renovation of the
Villa will be an expensive project and asked all the people that are ready
to help preserving Serbian history to join in.
The Villa of HM King Peter I Liberator was built in 1896,
and HM King Peter spent the last two years of his there. After King Peter
died 85 years ago, one day after his death, the National Assembly reached
the decision to transform the Villa into a museum, but the idea was never
completed.
