Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended this evening official opening of the Serbian Congress of Respiratory Medicine at Hotel Metropol Palace in Belgrade.  This important scientific event with international participation is being held under auspices of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine. The Congress has gathered over 400 pulmonologists, oncologists and radiologists from Serbia and the region, and is organized by the Clinic for Pulmonology of Clinical Centre of Serbia and Respiratory Association of Serbia, while co-organizers are the Medical Faculty of Belgrade, Institute for Pulmonology Sremska Kamenica, Clinic for Pulmonary diseases “Knez Selo” Nis and the Clinical Centre of Kragujevac.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander greeted the guests and said: “It is a great pleasure and honour to be the patron of this Congress for respiratory medicine, my wife and I thank you for that. Every event of prominent medical professionals from our country and abroad gives an excellent opportunity to present the latest knowledge and share experiences. I am certain you will leave this Congress with new ideas and new contacts, for the ultimate benefit of your patients and the citizens of Serbia”.

HRH Crown Princess Katherine addressed participants and guests and emphasized: “Lung diseases such as bronchial asthma, pneumonias and lung cancer are a big problem in our country. I am very pleased to see such great interest among our doctors to deal with these topics. For more than twelve years, my Foundation in Serbia has contributed to the health system, trying to make it as good as possible and most importantly accessible to all. The importance of international cooperation and constant improvement cannot be emphasized enough. I hope that this congress will become a traditional annual event and that we will gather here in such a large number next year as well.”

Prof. Dr Vladimir Djukic, state secretary at the Ministry of health of Republic or Serbia and Prof. Dr Dragana Jovanovic, head of scientific board of the congress also addressed participants. 

The Serbian Congress of Respiratory medicine is being held at Hotel Metropol Palace in Belgrade, from Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20, 2013.
