REFUGEE WOMEN’S HANDCRAFT BAZAAR AT
THE WHITE PALACE
Belgrade, 16 July 2005 – On the
occasion of the celebration of the
60th birthday of HRH Crown Prince
Alexander II, the Refugee Women’s
Handcraft Bazaar was organized for
the foreign guests at The White
Palace today.
The Bazaar displayed handcrafts
of over 20 participants who
traditionally take part at the
Christmas and Easter Bazaars
organized by the Foundation of HRH
Crown Princess Katherine, namely the
Network of Women’s Workshops:
“Artefakt”, “Open Doors”, “The Bread
of Life”, Art Studio “The White
Angel” from Belgrade, rug
manufacturers “Kilim”, artisans
Vanja Lipovac, Marina
Djakovic-Djapic, Desa Lucic and
Dusanka Jesic from Belgrade and
Ivana Berar from Zrenjanin.

thanked all the participants of the
Bazaar and wished them to continue
their work in preservation of the
rich handcraft tradition of our
country, and also encouraged them to
pass their skills to younger
generations and save them from
disappearing.
Many distinguished international
guests of Their Royal Highnesses who
came to celebrate the 60th birthday
of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II had
a unique opportunity to get to know
the rich cultural heritage of our
people. In the beautiful ambience of
The White Palace, which is a part of
The Royal Compound in Dedinje and
which has witnessed intense history
of our country and The Royal Family,
there was a display of hand made
cloths, blouses, skirts and gowns
that are part of our national
folklore costumes, hand made socks
and bags, Pirot “kilims”, made by a
unique in the combination of colours
reflecting our landscape, as well as
pillow cases and towels made of
special “Serbian linen”. The guests
could also take a look at the gilded
icons, hand painted gourds with
local motifs or heart shaped
candies, but also to taste
traditional food in original
packaging.
