DELEGATION OF KING’S YOUTH VISITS OPLENAC
Belgrade, 25 May 2008 – A delegation of the
King’s Youth Association visited
Oplenac, the historic cradle of
modern Serbia and the Karadjordjevic Dynasty. The visit occurred today, on
the symbolic 25th May that used to be celebrated in Tito’s era as Youth Day
(Tito’s birthday).
Representatives of King’s Youth were received by Mr.
Miladin Gavrilovic, Director of the King Peter I Karadjordjevic Foundation
at Oplenac. They laid a wreath on the grave of Karadjordje, Supreme Leader
of the 1804 First Serbian Uprising, and the “father” of the modern Serbian
state. The activists also lit candles for the four late rulers that are
buried in the Oplenac mausoleum – Supreme Leader Karadjordje, Prince
Alexander, King Peter I, and King Alexander I.
Today should be a new beginning. Serbia rather should
look into the future, that future being the Constitutional Kingdom of
Serbia.
King’s Youth representatives regret that they were not
able to pay their respects to the late King Peter II, who is buried in
Libertyville, Chicago, but hope that they will be able to do so in the near
future, when the late King is brought back to Serbia.
