DISCUSSION ON HUMANITARIAN SITUATION
CONTINUED
AT THE ROYAL PALACE
H.R.H. Crown Princess Katarina organized second
coordination meeting of non-
governmental organizations yesterday at the Royal Palace where current
humanitarian problems and the ways
to deal with these problems were discussed.
Mr. Paul Hebert, the Head of the UN Office for the
Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Ljiljana Pejin-Stokić,
coordinator of DACU (Development and Aid Coordination Unit ) of the Republic
Ministry for International Economic Affairs, representatives of some thirty
non-governmental organizations and members of the Foundation of HRH Princess
Katarina attended the meeting.
Discussing the heating problems during the
winter season, Mr. Paul Hebert said ECHO would provide heating fuel
for the refugees and temporarily displaced persons, while UNICEF would
provide the fuel for social institutions and clinics.
Mrs. Ljiljana Pejin-Stokić emphasized that DACU
would make an effort to coordinate all NGO activities with the Government of
the Republic of Serbia and
cited as an example current projects on the reconstruction of emergency
services and the acquisition of diagnostic
equipment.
Representatives of non-governmental organizations
expressed their willingness to help relevant Ministries to
co-ordinate activities and announced
that the next meeting would occur in November at the Royal Palace.
