His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander was guest of honor last night at a fundraising gala dinner for the Saint Sava Cathedral in New York, which was tragically destroyed by fire and requires funds for reconstruction. His Majesty King Peter II (father of Crown Prince Alexander) and family would attend services at Saint Sava Cathedral when they lived in New York.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine is in Chicago attending the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation charity event as an honorary founding member.
Their Royal Highnesses were in Boston on 5 June this year at Luncheon at St. Sava Orthodox Church, the first event took place to raise funds for Saint Sava Cathedral in New York.
The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Sava in New York City is an architectural treasure listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a New York City landmark, it was tragically destroyed by fire on Easter Sunday, May 1, 2016.
The tragic loss of this historic building leaves the Serbian Orthodox community without a single church within the city limits. A place of refuge and a vital resource for many people over decades, Saint Sava Cathedral served not only for New Yorkers, but the Serbian diaspora across the United States.
All the attendees at this important event joined in the renovation of this spiritual home under the leadership of the charismatic and deeply caring individual, His Grace Bishop Irinej, the recently elected Bishop of the Eastern American Diocese. The event was also attended by Mr. Vlade Divac, famous basketball player and president of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Mrs. Rebecca MacDonald, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Branko Terzic of Washington DC, the Royal Adjutant represented the Crown Council and Privy Council, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada, His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zela, His Grace Bishop John of Worcester and New England, Canon Dr. J. Robert Wright, Episcopalian Diocese of New York, Very Rev. Dr. Zivojin Jakovljevic, Cathedral Dean, Very Rev. Vladislav Radujkovic, Cathedral Parish Priest, Dr. Zorka Milich, Chairperson, Restoration and Development Committee and Mr. Nenad Milinkovic, President of the Cathedral Executive Board.
