HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEKSANDAR II VISITS
BRITISH COUNCIL IN BELGRADE
Belgrade, 04 December 2002 – HRH Crown Prince Aleksandar II visited the
British Council in Belgrade today, at the invitation of the Director of the
British Council in Yugoslavia, Mr. Chris Gibson, and was introduced to the
work of this international organization that deals in education and
establishment of cultural ties between Great Britain and other countries.
The Crown Prince first visited the Internet Center equipped with the most
advanced technology, that has a specially designed Internet gateway which
provides access to news and information about the United Kingdom, its
education system and the English Language, and then he called upon the
Library and Knowledge & Learning Centre.
Afterwards, the Crown Prince took part in the 10th session of the
international project “Youth for good governance” by video-conference,
together with the World Bank representative for Yugoslavia Mr. Rory
O’Sullivan and a team of high school students.
“Youth for Good Governance” is a joint pilot project of World Bank
Institute and British Council project, as part of a strategic partnership
between these two institutions, with participants from schools in the United
States, Russia, Ukraine, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Yugoslavia.
This program exposes young people to discussions on governance and
anti-corruption, and highlights the important role they might play in
quality improvements of the governance work in their countries. The
participants also learn how the use of information and communications
technology can contribute to the way decisions are made in their
communities.
HRH Crown Prince Aleksandar II greeted the participants of the seminar
and the representatives of the World Bank Institute in Washington by
video-beam.
He emphasized the importance of this seminar is in so much greater
because it brings together young people from all over the world regardless
of their ethnic or religious origin, and wished them all success in their
further work.
