Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine opened the second Sumadija Wine Festival in Oplenac. This had a special symbolic meaning for the Royal Couple because the Festival is taking place in the Foundation of the Karadjordjevic family and in the winery founded by the Crown Prince’s ancestors King Peter I and King Alexander I.

Crown Prince Alexander emphasized: “Hardworking Serbian entrepreneurs teamed up in this place with the idea that our dear Sumadija stands shoulder to shoulder with the most famous wine regions of the world. Their alliance is proof that, as our history teaches us, the future is in harmony and working together”.

Within the Festival, the Museum of Wine and Viticulture was opened at the Royal Winery, and a panel discussion was organized on the theme “Challenges and perspectives of Serbian wine making and viticulture – European Union funds and financing of rural development”.

The aim of this event is to promote quality wines that come from this region of Serbia and Sumadija as wine destination. The Association of Winemakers and Winegrowers of Sumadija, some time ago merged with the intention to protect the geographical origin of their wines and thus make them recognizable in the international market.
