August 14, 2003
Belgrade, Aug 14, 2003 –
The Serbian government decided on Thursday to declare August 15 a day of
mourning for the victims of Wednesday’s terrorist attack in Kosovo-Metohija,
in which two Serb children were killed and six others were injured.
At Thursday’s session,
which began with a minute’s silence for the victims, the Serbian government
agreed to introduce special security measures on the administrative border
with Kosovo-Metohija in order to protect
the population.
The Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of the state union has said that head of Serbia-Montenegro’s mission
to the United Nations Katarina Lalic-Smajevic has called for an urgent
session of the UN Security Council and demanded more efficient measures to
stop ethnic-Albanian violence in Kosovo-Metohija.
Several thousand Serbs
from Gorazdevac, Gracanica, Kosovska Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Osojane, and
Leposavic demonstrated on Thursday against the terrorist attack on Serb
children.
Of the six injured Serbs,
a 15-year old boy, Bogdan Bukumirovic, is in the most critical condition. He
was transferred last night to Belgrade’s
Military-Medical Academy (VMA), where he was visited by Serbian Prime
Minister Zoran Zivkovic and Head of the Coordinating Centre for
Kosovo-Metohija Nebojsa Covic. According to VMA, Bukumirovic underwent
surgery this morning, but remains in an unstable condition.
