Statement by
HRH Crown Prince Alexander’s Office
FRANKFURT “VESTI” FABRICATIONS
On its issue of 21 February the Frankfurt “Vesti” carries a report alleging
that His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander has asked the Macedonian
authorities to return to him the Demir Kapija estate which was at one time
the property of the late King Alexander I. “Vesti” says that the
His Highness’s request will be considered by the Macedonian authorities
when the new law on denationalisation is drafted, and then stresses
that that the news about this alleged request has been received with “disbelief
and consternation” at the King Peter I`s Foundation at Oplenac. The
paper publishes the report under the malicious heading “Alexander wants
what does not belong to him” and also publishes a statement by HRH
Prince Tomislav, the uncle of His Highness, in which the Prince points
out the fact that King Alexander I had left Demir Kapija to
him and he has the title deeds to the estate whose return he is demanding
from the Macedonian authorities.
In connection with this fabrication which was probably produced by the
regime’s centre for disinformation, this Office is authorised to state
that H.R.H. Crown Prince Alexander has never demanded the return of the
Demir Kapija estate. He is aware that this estate was bought
by the late King Alexander I with his own money and that he had willed
it to HRH Prince Tomislav in his testament. However, the entire
property of the Karadjordjevic Royal House all over the territory of the
former Yugoslavia had been seized illegally by the communist power-holders
after the Second World War and has not been returned to their rightful
owners to this day.
This Office is surprised that any newspaper should publish news of this
sort without making an effort to check beforehand with His Highness’s Office.
It is necessary to bear in mind that the regime in Belgrade has a special
centre for disinformation and that this is not the first time that HRH
Crown Prince Alexander is the target of fabrications, which this centre
circulates. The aim of disinformation is to discredit the entire
Royal House and HRH Crown Prince Alexander in particular.
