Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended the opening of the exhibition “Jovan Bijelić – from the vaults of the National Museum in Belgrade” at the National Museum in Belgrade tonight.
Jovan Bijelic was one of the leading representatives of the mainstream art in the period between the two World Wars in Serbia and former Yugoslavia, and today is still regarded to be one of the most significant artist in this part of the world.
The National Museum has compiled a total of thirty eight paintings, which best represent this important artist, and at the same time are the highlights of Serbian art generally.
Bijelic’s masterpieces were a part of the permanent National Museum’s display and were presented in the most exclusive anthologies of art history. Some of his works were used for the jubilee post stamps from the “Art” series.
