THIRD ONCOLOGY SYMPOSIUM 2012 OFFICIALLY STARTS
Belgrade, 27 September 2012 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine hosted a reception for participants of “Third ONCOLOGY SYMPOSIUM 2012” tonight at the Royal Palace. Among Symposium participants, renowned doctors from our country and abroad, the opening ceremony was attended also by Dr. Maja Vuckovic-Krcmar, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Commission and Dr. Ana Jovicevic, on behalf of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia.
The official opening of the Third Oncology Symposium is planned for Friday 28th September 2012 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Hotel. Besides TRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine the guests will be addressed by H.E. Prof. Dr. Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Minister of Health of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Vincent Degert, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Serbia, Dr. Dorit Nitcan, head of the World Health Organization in Serbia and Dr. Hedvig Hricak, director of the Department of Radiology at Memorial Sloan Ketterin Cancer Center Hospital in New York City, United States of America.
After the official opening the participants will have the opportunity to take part in lectures and workshops on the following topics: “Oncological imaging” and “The importance of imaging in the diagnosis of prostate cancer” by Professor Hedvig Hricak, PhD, “Implementation of the National screening program – Report on activities” by Professor Dusan Cerberus, PhD, the leader of the Project Technical support in the implementation of the national screening program in Serbia, “Management in Oncology – international trends and controversies, health systems and institutions in transition” by Ivana Jekic, PhD, the Clinical Center Serbia, “The role of PET in oncology,” by Professor Jasna Mihajlovic, PhD, head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Institute of Oncology.
Professor Hricak is not the only foreign lecturer who at this symposium. Foreign lectures will be on these topics: “Report on Croatia breath cancer screening” by Professor Boris Brkljacic, PhD, a professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, University Hospital Dubrava, Zagreb University, “Controversies in breast cancer screening” and “Imaging breast cancer: treatment and follow-up” by Professor David Dershaw, PhD, Professor in the Department of Radiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City hospital, “Quality Control” and “BIRADS latest developments” by Professor Carol Lee, PhD, professor at the Department of Radiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City hospital, “Controversies in screening for colorectal cancer” by Professor Jean Febvre, PhD, consultant on a Project of Technical support in the implementation of the national screening program in Serbia and “Imaging of colon cancer” of by Natasha Prvulovic, PhD.
On Friday, the 28th of September will be presented the newest reports about screening for colorectal cancer and prostate cancer in Serbia, by Milena Scepanovic and Professor Cane Tulich, PhD, after which there will be a workshop “Basic elements for the establishment of screening programs and perform quality control” led Prof. David Dershew, Professor Carol Lee, PhD and Prof. Boris Brkljacic, PhD.
The next day will begin with the workshop by Mrs. Sheila Fortunato on “How to write a successful project – subsidies”, and followed by a lecture: “Tobacco control in Serbia” by Dr Srmana Krstov, head of the National Committee for the Prevention of Smoking, “Diagnostic Algorithms lesions found in screening for lung cancer” and “lung cancer-screening role” by Professor Christian J. Herold, PhD, a professor in the Department of Radiology of the Vienna General Hospital, “Pilot study of low-dose CT screening for lung cancer” by Professor Sanja Stojanovic, PhD, “The role of omega-3 fatt acids and a diet in cancer treatment” by a professor Zaharule Nikolakopolu, PhD, from the University Queen Mary in London, “Genetic predisposition to breast cancer morbidity and ovarian cancer” by Prof Tanja Pejovic, PhD, “BRCA testing – the experience of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia” by Dr Mirjana Brankovic Magic, head of the Department of Experimental Oncology.
At the end of the last day, before the final discussion, Prof. Peter Bošnjaković will present the results of screening mammography mobile in Serbia for the period 2009 – 2012, enabled by the donation of the Foundation of HRH Princess Catherine, while Dr Aleksandra Jaric will present the results of screening mammography mobile in Serbia for the period 2009 – 2012. enabled by a donation of the B92.
