Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine hosted “About mirrors, roses and nothingness” a book promotion by Prof. Dr Jelena Todorovic, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, this evening at the White Palace. At the same time, the paintings mentioned in the book from Royal Compound Art Collection were also presented. Prof. Dr Miroslav Timotijevic and Prof. Dr Sasa Brajovic from the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr Djordje S. Kostic, from the Institute for Balkan Studies, and author Prof. Dr Jelena Todorovic spoke about the book, published by CLIO.
The book by Jelena Todorovic is the first comprehensive, inter disciplinary study of a huge, but almost neglected theme in the history of culture, question of time and transience in Baroque. The book provides a possible answer to the complex question regarding Baroque relations towards phenomenon of time in different aspects: time as transience, time as movement, time as manipulation with the past, relationship between time and nature.
Professor Jelena Todorovic Phd, MA, BA, Received BA in the History of Art (1993-1998) at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. She continued studies for both MA and PhD at University College London (UCL – 1998-2004) where she also worked, first as a teaching assistant then later as a part-time lecturer. In 2005 she was transferred to the University of the Arts in Belgrade where she presently teaches in the Faculty of Fine Arts as an Associate Professor. She is member of the Art Council of the Royal Palace.
There is also an exhibition of paintings from the Royal Art Collection organised at the White Palace, with authors mentioned in the book: Simon Vouet, Nicolas Poussin, Sébastien Bourdon, Francois Millet, and one unknown artist.
